Acoustic cleaning cuts maintenance at BPB Gypsum

A Primasonics International product story

For a high maintenance mechanical rapping system at a BPB Gypsum plant, Audiosonic Acoustic Cleaners not only keeps the plates clean but also cleans the internal roof, walls and baffles.

It is all too easy to accept the increasing year on year costs involved in both the routine maintenance of a precip mechanical rapping system and in lost production time in enforced shutdown due to internal damage caused by hammer breakage.

However, Ian Brennand, Site Engineer at the BPB Gypsum plant in Kirkby Thore, North of England, refused to accept this as the inevitable consequence it was once perceived to be.

He was faced with ever increasing costs in maintaining his Flakt Precipitator attached to the Perlite production plant.

So Ian decided to seek a new, innovative solution and contacted Primasonics International Limited.

He had previously installed a small acoustic cleaner Model PAS-210 in a troublesome chute which had totally cured the material blocking problem.

A Primasonics engineer carried out a site survey of the precip operation and determined that the three zone, single cell precip required a total of five Audiosonic Acoustic Cleaners - 2 x Model PAS-75 in Zone 1, 1 x PAS75 in zone 2 and 1 x PAS-230 in Zone 3.

These Acoustic Cleaners were supplied on a prolonged trial basis and installed by BPB engineers.

Over a period of time Primasonics engineers for made several visits for on site discussions and adjustments.

The result was exactly what Ian Brennan had hoped for.

The Audiosonic Acoustic Cleaners not only kept the plates clean but also cleaned the internal roof, walls and baffles.

He was able to turn off the mechanical rapping equipment and as Primasonics provide a three-year guarantee, his costs now are extremely low and containable.

"We had a real problem with the high cost of maintaining our mechanical rapping system which has been eliminated by the successful introduction of the Primasonics Audiosonic Acoustic Cleaners.

It should provide an annual saving of around £9,000.00.
