Acoustic cleaner keeps cement powder flowing

A Primasonics International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 11, 2002

An acoustic cleaner is playing a key role in keeping things flowing at the Castle Cement Terminal in West Thurrock.

An efficient reverse jet filter is an essential part of any modern dry material bagging line, especially when located within a busy cement powder packing plant such as that at the Castle Cement Terminal, West Thurrock, near London, England.

Dave Everett, Site Engineer, was continually having problems with material building up and blocking the filter unit, especially the underhopper.

This required an ongoing manual input to open the unit and clean it, which was not an easy task as the filter was externally located.

This was a no-win situation as additional costs were incurred to continually manually clean the filter and the loss of packing plant operation during this time.

Everett decided to find an effective alternative which would firstly eliminate the need for an intrusive manual cleaning regime and also provide continual plant efficiency without incurring product cross-contamination.

He contacted Primasonics International and an engineer visited site to survey the problem.

The company recommended the installation of a Primasonics Model PAS-350 acoustic cleaner mounted within a mounting tube located high up on the hopper section.

The company was confident that this acoustic cleaner would not only prevent material build up within the hopper section but also aid bag cleaning and generally improve hygiene within the filter unit.

The Model PAS-350 with mounting tube was installed and controlled by a combined solenoid timer which "sounded" the acoustic cleaner during packing plant operation.

At the conclusion of the trial period Everett was delighted with the result.

"The Primasonics Audiosonic acoustic cleaner really kept the entire internal surfaces clean and ensured smooth powder discharge.

I am so pleased with the results that I have installed the same model of acoustic cleaner in our other filter unit and also installed other models of Primasonics acoustic cleaners elsewhere on our site".
