Blackburn-based, high performance seals specialist Precision Polymer Engineering has overcome stiff competition to supply micro seals to W L Gore and Associates for use in the European Jet Fighter

Blackburn-based, high performance seals specialist Precision Polymer Engineering (www.prepol.com) has overcome stiff competition from the United States to win a 10 year contract to supply micro seals to W L Gore and Associates (UK) Ltd for use in the European Jet Fighter.

The seals will be used within cable terminations, acting as a seal to prevent any contaminant liquids entering the connector.

Conforming to DTD standard MIL-R-83248, the micro seals are manufactured to precise tolerances in a FKM elastomer at Precision Polymer Engineering's (PPE) Blackburn plant.

This latest contract with Gore builds on PPE's existing role as a supplier of seals to Gore's existing defence business.

Stewart English, purchasing associate, W L Gore and Associates (UK) said, "PPE has consistently demonstrated its ability to meet the exacting quality and manufacturing standards expected by Gore Ltd in other areas of our business.

In awarding this 10 year contract we are confident in PPE's ability to maintain these high standards in its seals for the European Jet Fighter." Peter Cloney, general manager, PPE, welcomes the award of the Gore contract.

"Manufacturing micro seals is an area in which PPE excels.

The contract for the European Jet Fighter is significant in allowing us to develop further our expertise in this area," he said.

Precision Polymer Engineering's web site is an important on-line resource for engineers looking for high performance O-rings and technical mouldings made from a wide range of elastomeric compounds.

It also features an on-line seal design service drawing on PPE's 25 years experience in seal design for a wide range of industries.

PPE's supplies O-rings from under 1 mm up to 2 metres in diameter, in addition to composite and other specialist mouldings.

All its products are made to order, enabling the company to tailor the seal to meet specific technical and industry requirements.
