Better sealing properties with Aflas
elastomers
Precision Polymer Engineering announces new Aflas grade elastomers for flexible diaphragms and seals used in pumps and valves, which offer outstanding resistance to chemical and steam
High performance seals specialist, Precision Polymer Engineering announces new Aflas grade elastomers for flexible diaphragms and seals used in pumps and valves Combining the chemical resistance typical of Aflas with the flexibility of NBR elastomers, the elastomers are designed for harsh industrial applications where more expensive perfluoroelastomers are normally used

Until now the high level of chemical resistance of Aflas has been at the price of poor physical properties leading to their exclusive use as O-rings in pumps and valves.
Precision Polymer Engineering's (PPE's) Aflas seals offer outstanding resistance to chemical and steam.
In addition to greater flexibility, the new PPE Aflas elastomers offer improved explosive de-compression and extrusion resistance.
The elastomers can also be combined with other materials to broaden the scope of Aflas applications.
These can include metal substrates or reinforcing fabrics for high-pressure applications.
Used as a composite seal, Aflas offers a more cost-effective and longer lasting alternative to other more expensive elastomers.
The new Aflas grades have 27% increased flex life in some applications and are ideally suited for low-pressure non-reinforced diaphragm applications where excellent chemical resistance is required.
When subjected to long term heat ageing at 175C, the improved Aflas material retains at least 30% higher tensile strength and elongation than standard Aflas grades.
For process companies, the new Aflas grades allows for steam flushes between products without damaging the seal or diaphragm, thus extending valve and pump maintenance cycles and increasing the flexibility of the process plant.
The new grades of Aflas are already being used in numerous applications ranging from paper manufacture through to motorsport hydraulic brake and coolant bladders for storing fluid pressure.
Aflas is a trademark of the Asahi Glass Company.
