High-performance seals specialist Precision Polymer Engineering has developed an online, interactive chemical compatibility chart for elastomer seals.

Engineers simply select the solvent or chemicals involved in the process and are automatically presented with a range of compatibility from "excellent" through to "do not use".

Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE) manufactures seals in more than 370 elastomers.

These are presented as 19 elastomer types, with their operating temperature range, in the interactive chart.

On selecting an elastomer type a window opens to give more details about the elastomer.

Full datasheets on each elastomer covering chemical compatibility, physical performance and FDA/USP Class VI can be found in the materials database on the PPE website.

"Selecting the right seal for a chemical process is critical to maximising plant flexibility.

We hope engineers will use the interactive chemical compatibility chart as both a quick reference guide when faced with changing solvents and as an aid to selecting seals for new processes", says Peter Cloney, Managing Director, Precision Polymer Engineering.
