Sealing materials extend plant production times
Precision Polymer Engineering announces a new range of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) conforming perfluoroelastomers for use in all food and pharmaceutical applications
It allows engineers to quickly identify the best fit British Standard (BS) size O-ring for their equipment, and print off a full dimensional drawing.
Developed in consultation with its engineering customers, PPE has significantly enhanced the power of its chemical/elastomer compatibility selection tool.
It now allows engineers to select from a list of 1000 chemicals likely to come into contact with the seal and then systematically refine their search to arrive at the most appropriate elastomer for the chemicals used and processing conditions.

For those instances where an engineer needs a seal but either doesn't know the BS size or knows the BS size but needs detailed measurements of the seal groove, PPE has developed the labour-saving O-ring and groove dimension look-up wizard.
No longer do engineers have to spend hours thumbing through tables and calculating the seal size, the wizard does it all within seconds.
It provides BS sizes for the most common seals used in plant equipment, specifically, rod seals, piston seals, face seals and trapped seals.
It also provides a detailed technical drawing of the groove showing all dimensional measurements which can be included in other reports and drawings.
"We've designed the PPE website to provide a one-stop seal selection resource for engineers".
"Selecting the right seal is of vital importance for engineers who want to avoid leaks and excessive plant equipment maintenance".
"The easy-to-use wizards allow engineers to quickly find the most chemically compatible seal and BS size of O-ring or groove", says Donna Maskell, Marketing Manager, Precision Polymer Engineering.
The PPE website features an extensive brochure and datasheets downloads library enabling chemical engineers to print off detailed technical specifications for PPE elastomers as well as their applications.
The library includes PDF brochures covering details of PPE's elastomers, chemical resistance, food and pharmaceutical seals, and newsletters.
Further developments are planned.
These will include online tutorials covering everything from the fundamentals of elastomers to advanced technical issues.
