Business support grant awarded to Blackburn polymer engineering company to help boost manufacturing capabilities so it can compete worldwide and employ more people.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has awarded a business support grant to Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE) to help boost the manufacturing capabilities of the Blackburn based company.

PPE, which develops elastomer sealing, has benefited from a Selective Finance for Investment in England (SFI) grant, which supports capital investment projects that lead to improvements in productivity, skills and employment.

The SFI grant will help the company invest in machinery that is already being used by its overseas competitors.

The technology will streamline production, improving efficiency of manufacture as well as helping PPE remain at the forefront of the industry.

The investment will help maintain employment and create jobs at the company, which employs 148 people, and help safeguard the future of the business.

Peter Dobson, NWDA Selective Finance for Investment (SFI) Team Leader, said: "Improving business performance to secure economic growth is a key priority for the NWDA".

"We are therefore delighted to have been able to help PPE invest in new equipment that will significantly improve its productivity".

"This in turn will create new jobs which is welcome news".

Peter Cloney, PPE Managing Director, said: "PPE is a rapidly growing company that operates in niche markets around the world".

"As we export over 70% of our product, it means we are generally in competition with large overseas multinationals".

"To compete in the global market, we have to be efficient, responsive and produce high quality product to challenging deadlines".

"This is only achieved by state-of-the-art machinery and developing a highly trained workforce".

"The NWDA grant assists us to attain both these goals".
