The second generation of the popular ProDrive-2000 micro-stepping driver comes with a price tag to satisfy even the most cost-sensitive applications.

The second generation of the popular ProDrive-2000 micro-stepping driver comes with a price tag to satisfy even the most cost-sensitive applications This "second-generation" product is designed around the same proven architecture, yet incorporates several improvements that ease thermal requirements and provide added robustness

While maintaining the same +24 to +80V DC power-supply range, at 1 to 7A per phase, power dissipation within the TO-220 MOSFETs has been reduced to 25% of that within the first generation.

This eliminates the need for additional heatsinks or cooling fans.

The new form- factor is based on an extruded aluminium chassis and sports an open frame to further reduce heat buildup.

"We feel the time has come to assist system designers in reducing their burden", says a spokesman for Protobyte.

"By reducing thermal requirements and providing substantial cost savings, I believe we have done just that", he added.

The second-generation ProDrive-2000 is expected to make its debut late in July 2003.
