Recent news that patents without declarations of assignment are to be imposed on fieldbus protocols that are standardised within IEC and Cenelec has surprised Profibus International Standards affected by manufacturers' patents must normally be listed fully in the Standard and made available to everyone on fair and equal conditions

Profibus International will take up this topic, and in the interests of its members will continue to advocate open, freely accessible standards, and support national and international standardization for proper publication.
