The Profibus User Organisation and the Interface for Distributed Automation are to promote the use of accepted standards to minimise differences between the two solutions.

The Profibus User Organisation and the Interface for Distributed Automation have signed an extensive co-operation agreement promoting the use of accepted standards to minimise differences between the two solutions and enable interoperability between field devices from different suppliers Initially, two joint workgroups have been set up, one to handle device integration by defining and maintaining unified device descriptions using XML, the other to address the problem of different suppliers' products not being configurable or diagnosed with the same tool and not operating on the same fieldbus
