Fieldbus networks keep baggage systems running
Marco Polo Airport, Venice, uses redundant Profibus DP fieldbus networks on the high-availability baggage handling system that processes up to 4000 items of luggage per hour.
These will be delivered in two main streams: formal conference sessions for advanced users and hands-on Profibus primers for people new to the technology.
The event kicks off with a keynote address from industry expert Prof George Turnbull.
Entitled "Recent technology developments - fitting it all together", the presentation will examine key developments, milestones and events in the world of industrial and process automation and show how Profibus continues to meet the ever changing demands placed on communications technology by advances in automation and control technology.
With presentations on wireless Profibus, Profinet in the automotive industry, advanced motion control, asset management, open system integration and support for complex devices in the process industry, functional safety in manufacturing and intrinsic safety in process applications, the conference agenda offers something of value to everyone.
The primers also address many key practical issues confronting Profibus users: Mark Cargill of Purac starts the proceedings with a practical guide to profibus layout and installation, based on his experiences in designing and implementing process systems.
There are sessions on configuration, diagnostics, trouble shooting and commissioning using a range of instruments and techniques, covering Profibus DP, PA and even Profinet.
There's also a practical demo of Profisafe from Sebastian Strutt of Erwin Sick and Peter Brown of Siemens.
The event closes on the subject of safety, with presentations from the Simon Brown of the UK's Health and Safety Executive and Wolgang Stripf, Chairman of Profibus International's Profisafe Working Group.
