Profibus releases Profisafe V2 mode for use on Profibus DP and Profinet IO.

Profibus has released Profisafe V2 mode for use on Profibus DP and Profinet IO.

A uniform profile is available for safety applications with Profibus and Profinet.

The V2 mode is compatible with previously released versions' profiles on Profibus DP limited V1 mode and permits mixed operation on Profibus networks.

The goal in developing the V2 mode was to develop a uniform profile for both platforms that can be used in production automation, drive technology, motion control and process automation.

The previous black channel principle has been maintained.

The safety layer is independent of the communication system and includes the backplane buses of PLC and field devices.

V2 mode takes into account the properties of Ethernet networks, such as the expanded address space and active network components, such as switches.

As an open concept for safety-related applications, Profisafe implements the user requirement for coexistence of standard and safety communications on one cable.

It can be used for safety applications to category four or SIL3.

A positive TUV concept assessment for the V2 mode is available.

The corresponding tests from BGIA have also been mostly completed.

There is a Profisafe driver for F devices certified by TUV for developing safe field devices.

Profisafe is standardised internationally in IEC61784-3.
