User meeting provides hands-on experience
The Profibus User group meeting will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.
Practical hands-on discussions and training are a major part of the Profibus User group meeting scheduled for 26th-27th June this year.
The training sessions are presented on both days of the conference, enabling delegates also to attend any specific lectures of interest, and visit the exhibition of relevant Profibus products, staffed by applications specialists from major suppliers.
Two of the training sessions will be provided by Andy Verwer, Principal Lecturer at the Automation Systems Centre and Profibus Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University.
These will be based on their Certified Profibus and Profinet Installers Course, designed for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include Profibus fieldbus installation.
When presented as a full-day workshop, these teach the design, installation and testing of complete Profibus networks including DP/FMS, PA and optical fibre technology.
Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course also teaches delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.
The full-day Profinet workshop provides an overview of the operation and applications of Profinet technology and includes hands-on practicals with setting up and checking of real devices.
In two 45-minute sessions dealing separately with Profibus and Profinet installation, Verwer will provide a summary of the main aspects to consider, and answer any specific queries.
A further practical session will demonstrate device configuration and asset management over Profibus, as a co-operative presentation between Andy Smith of Endress + Hauser and Mark McCormick of Siemens Process Control, which also illustrates the Profibus communications compatibility between suppliers.
Another practical demonstration from Joost van der Nat, of Procentec, will show Profibus commissioning and health checking.
The user meeting will take place at Coombe Abbey near Coventry on 26th-27th June.
