Mentor adds weight to cable design standards

A ProSTEP iViP Association product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 10, 2005

Mentor Graphics has become a member of the ProStep iViP Association, the organisation concerned with the development and harmonisation of international product data standards.

Mentor Graphics has become a member of the ProStep iViP Association, the organisation concerned with the development and harmonisation of international product data standards.

As one of the leading vendors of electrical design tools, the membership of Mentor Graphics supports the development of a common standard for the exchange of electronic data, especially within the automotive industry.

With its knowhow, Mentor Graphics will actively participate in the association's ECAD Implementer Forum that has previously made significant contributions to the detailed elaboration of the ISO10303 STEP AP212 electrical system design and harness standard.

More recently it has also been responsible for the development of the KBL automotive electrical harness standard, a specialised derivative of AP212.

"AP212 is our chosen open standard for supporting data exchange with our Capital Harness System (CHS) tool suite because the AP212 technical scope (from concept to manufacture) and its industry scope (from cars to trains, planes and other transportation platforms) matches exactly with our CHS product offering", said Martin O'Brien, General Manager, Mentor Graphics Integrated Electrical Systems Division.

"KBL is an important derivative of AP212 that is especially important to our German customers involved in harness design and manufacture, and we look forward to working with the ECAD Implementer Forum to contribute towards its further development".

At the upcoming ProStep iViP Symposium in Berlin (Germany) Mentor Graphics will give a presentation on mechatronics in automotive and transportation.
