Level sensor resists lightning strikes

A Pressure Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 31, 2008

The 300 series level transducer features a rugged, waterproof design and is ideal for ground water and surface water monitoring, down hole, dewatering, level control and shipboard-use applications.

Pressure Systems offers lightning protection for its 300 series of small-bore submersible level transducer.

The 300 series features protection against fast rising voltage transients using two surge protection components, one located in the 19mm OD 316 housing of the transducer and one located at the surface, grounded via a DIN-rail or ground wire.

The 300 series is designed for small-bore applications to meet the rigorous environments encountered in a range of water level measurements.

With an option of welded 316 SS or titanium construction, this transducer family features a rugged, waterproof design and is ideal for ground water and surface water monitoring, down hole, dewatering, level control and shipboard-use applications.

Featuring a highly accurate pressure sensor assembly and optional chemical-resistant ETFE cable jacket, the 300 series can stand up to the harshest environments that contain hostile fluids and gases.

This transducer series offers custom level ranges up to 210m H2O and an accuracy of up to +/-0.05% FS.

The 300 series also features an analogue output of 4-20mA, 0-5V DC or mV.

Each transducer includes Pressure Systems' SuperDry long-life vent filter, which prevents moisture from entering the vent tube for at least one year without maintenance.

An optional aneroid bellows instead of a vent filter suits applications where periodic maintenance is not practical and extremely high accuracy is not required.

The cable, available in custom lengths, includes Kevlar members to prevent errors due to cable elongation and offers a water-block feature that self-seals the cable in the event of an accidental cut.

A ported nose cap where weights can be attached is also offered for installations that may include sharp, protruding objects.

The 300 series is designed for installation in Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C and D; Class II, Division 1, Groups E, F and G; and Class III, Division 1 hazardous locations when connected to the appropriate apparatus.

KPSI transducers are type-approved by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS); are UL, CUL and FM approved; have an IP68 and NEMA 6P housing protection rating; and are CE-compliant to EN 61000-6-4:2001 AND en 61000-6-2:2001.
