The range of anticondensation heaters manufactured by Pentagon Electrical Products has proved to be highly successful, with 2006 expected to be the year when total sales tops 2 million units These low wattage products comprise vitreous enamelled resistors housed in a sheet steel enclosure which incorporates a perforated access cover

This provides good convection and air movement, while preventing direct contact with the heating element.

The units can be supplied in nine power ranges from 20 to 120W, suitable for a range of input voltages including standard 110 and 230V AC.

They were initially designed for use in switch or control gear cabinets and cubicles to prevent condensation.

However, following their introduction at an electrical trade exhibition, where the original prototype was actually stolen, the heaters have been subject to constant development and utilised on projects throughout the world.

The manufacturers also report that they have been supplied for many unusual applications, including large scale seed germination, the gentle drying-out of wet animals in a pet parlour, keeping clothes dry in wardrobes in far eastern countries and preventing moisture build-up in the electronics of sea-going survival craft.

These robust heaters have virtually unlimited industrial and commercial applications where a constant gentle level of background heating is required.

They have been designed as fit-and-forget products, needing little or no maintenance except for occasional visual inspection and possible removal of surface dust from elements.

In conditions of restricted air flow, or where heat build-up should be contained or controlled, then the use of a thermostat also available from Pentagon, would be recommended.
