Software manages product lifecycles for NASA
NASA's Johnson Space Center is realising significant benefits with its production-level implementation of PTC Windchill Applications and services for product lifecycle management (PLM).
As a long-time user of PTC's Pro/Engineer, the selection of Windchill extends Jetta's existing relationship with PTC and allows Jetta to benefit from an integral product development system.
Jetta has used PTC Pro/Engineer as its standard 3D CAD/CAM/CAE software for product design since the 1990s, enabling a rapid transfer of innovative ideas into successful products.
As Jetta's business grew, so did its requirements for enhanced communication between project managers and engineers.

Lifecycle management for the super jumbo
PTC Windchill product lifecycle management solutions have been deployed to create the "product information backbone" of the Airbus A380, the 555 passenger super jumbo aircraft now under development.
Specifically, Jetta wanted to allow enterprise data sharing, create a centralised information repository and reduce process cycle time.
Building on its long and successful partnership with PTC and based on PTC's expertise in product development and history as a trusted advisor, Jetta decided to augment its engineering infrastructure by adding PTC Windchill.
The deployment project includes planning, business process consulting, solution architecture design, project management, implementation, training and rollout.
It is being performed by PTC Global Services.
Using PTC Solutions, Jetta has been able to reduce project costs, minimise the potential for human error, and improve collaboration among different departments to increase operating efficiency.
"Jetta's business growth globally is creating greater need for strong internal and external customer collaboration".
"By adopting Windchill as a common software platform capable of integrating with the range of product design systems used by our customers, we will be able to synchronise our internal processes and adopt best practice while retaining the flexibility to meet the needs of our customers", said Kenneth Wong, Director of Manufacturing, Jetta.
"By strengthening our program management processes using PTC Windchill, we expect to achieve significant performance improvements in our product development process, resulting in faster time to market and increased competitive advantage".
"Companies continue to struggle with creating the most effective global product development strategies, often trying to manage both design and manufacturing through a heavily outsourced value chain", said Chad Hawkinson, Vice President, Product Strategy, Electronics, PTC.
"We are pleased that Jetta has selected our solutions for flexible product collaboration and we look forward to continuing our co-operation with them".
