New technology cuts electricity consumption

A PowerPerfector product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 27, 2005

An innovative green technology has the potential to reduce businesses' electricity consumption by up to 20 per cent.

Fuel costs are soaring and the National Grid supplies voltage at levels greater than businesses really need.

This month, many businesses are beginning to feel the bite as the cost of electricity has doubled compared to the same period in 2004.

Physics shows that high voltage is a hidden and adjustable cost.

powerPerfector, a proven voltage optimisation technology, is being launched to offer an innovative way to reduce electricity consumption and carbon emissions.

With 80 per cent of businesses using and paying for more electricity than they need, powerPerfector provides a win/win answer for business and the environment.

Recent research of 250 companies highlights that; 80 per cent are paying for more electricity than they actually need; 80 per cent could reduce their electricity costs by over 12 per cent; 60 per cent could reduce their electricity costs by over 13 per cent; 20 per cent could reduce their electricity costs by over 15 per cent.

Businesses are now under dual pressure from shareholders and government to increase profits and reduce carbon emissions.

To date, many green technologies have deterred business with their 5-20 year payback period and significant capital investment.

Now over 20 powerPerfector customers, including Tesco, Land Registry, Buckinghamshire County Council, Woolworths and Burger King, are investing in second-generation green technologies that provide a win/win for business and the environment.

Angus Robertson, CEO of powerPerfector, comments: "Business and the Public Sector are investing in powerPerfector because we are delivering a simple green solution that enables them to reduce their electricity consumption, carbon footprint, and to protect their entire electronic infra-structure from poor power quality and potential damaging spikes.

"powerPerfector provides a proven payback period of 1-3 years.

"This is a positive return on investment of 30-80 per cent - almost unheard of for a green technology".

Councillor Frank Downes, portfolio holder for resources at Buckinghamshire County Council, comments: "The County Council is committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions; key to this is the efficient use of energy.

"Reducing electrical consumption across the property portfolio has and will continue to be difficult, due to the increasing use of equipment.

"The installation of the powerPerfector unit at County Hall has reduced electrical energy consumption by 12 per cent, with a saving of 82 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per annum.

"We are now looking at installing these units across many more of our properties".

Elliot Morley, Minister for Climate Change and Environment, says: "The government supports investment in technology that can help to meet the environmental challenges we face, such as tackling climate change, cutting pollution and saving energy.

"There are big business opportunities, and plenty of potential for continued innovation to provide solutions that are good for business, good for consumers and good for the environment".

powerPerfector is one of a growing number of second-generation environmentally-friendly technologies that offer a win/win answer for business and the environment.
