Power Jacks has acquired the entire share capital of Glasgow-based competitor Precision Actuation Systems (incorporating Neeter Drive, Fortune Actuators and Fortune Engineering).

The company comments: "This acquisition allows us to consolidate our position as one of Europe's leading manufacturers of worm gear screw jacks and linear actuation systems".

Combined revenues of the group are expected to be in the region of GBP 7-8 million.

Power Jacks was formed in 1987 following a MBO from Swedish firm Atlas Copco and occupies the site formally owned by CP (Consolidated Pneumatic Tool).

The company manufactures a range of mechanical worm gear screw jacks that are used in a wide range of industries in lifting and positioning applications.

Customers include companies such as Corus, Rolls Royce, BNFL, British Aerospace and General Electric.

According to Managing Director Bruce Bultitude: "The acquisition of PAS (Precision Actuation Systems) will strengthen our core screw jack business as well as adding new products to our range including bevel gearboxes and linear slide systems.

The PAS Rolaram product, that incorporates a high speed roller screw, has far reaching applications in the automotive and steel industries as a real alternative to hydraulics".

Around 50% of Power Jacks' business is exported, mainly to Europe and Africa.

The acquisition will help to develop new markets in Australia, Japan, Korea and China as well as adding to European sales.
