Improved management for acquired data

A Quality Systems International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 17, 2002

The latest release of WinLIMS from QSI incorporates a new calculation engine with greatly enhanced flexibility and functionality offering powerful new tools for laboratory data management.

Most existing LIMS applications are based on calculation engines with very restricted functionality and are therefore unable to carry out frequently required but more complex tasks like interpretation of results or statistical process control within the basic package.

Even redefining simple calculation routines often means going back to the core program.

The latest release of WinLIMS from QSI incorporates a new calculation engine with greatly enhanced flexibility and functionality offering powerful new tools for laboratory data management.

Virtually all mathematical functions are supported, including Boolean algebra: functions such as "if", "then" etc, which are especially useful when working in the GLP or GMP environments.

The software's exceptional flexibility allows calculation routines that can use numeric values from anywhere within the WinLIMS tables, enabling techniques such as "cross sample" calculation, ie the ability to incorporate results from one sample in the calculation of results for another.

An example of this might be the application of correction coefficients - tracking the performance of an analysis against calibration standards - to correct results "on the fly" at any time in a series of measurements.

Not only is this the most flexible calculation engine found in any core LIMS product, but the "point and click" user interface confers exceptional ease of use and parameter selection.

The product is also compatible with Web technology, which QSI predicts will be fundamental to the future development of LIMS.
