Prototypes get instant quoting on web

A Quickparts product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 26, 2001

Online instantaneous quoting for prototype parts via web site for build-to-order plastic and metal parts.

Quickparts has released online instantaneous quoting for Waterclear and high resolution prototype parts.

This technology, deployed on the firm's web site within Quickquote v3.1, is the latest in a series of technology releases that enable web-based instantaneous quoting for build-to-order plastic and metal parts.

The instant quotes service is for prototype parts in quantities from one to 50,000.

The development of both the Waterclear and high resolution capabilities is a result of formal customer requests for these processes as part of the broad prototyping service.

Waterclear is a clear stereolithography material made by DSM Somos.

Customers who need clear prototypes, of lenses for example, can get instantaneous quotes and place orders on the Quickparts web site.

High resolution prototypes are stereolithography parts made with equipment that can provide three times the resolution of standard stereolithography parts.

Customers who have parts with features as small as 130um, such as electrical connectors, can get instant quotes and place orders for those parts on the web site.

"As we continue our rapid growth, with our customer-base now nearing 600, we are continually asked to provide services that fill the needs of that growing customer base", said Mark Mackie, VP of Sales and Marketing at Quickparts.

"Our mission is to make it easy for our customers to buy custom-designed parts that meet their needs, so adding the Waterclear and high resolution services, repeatedly requested by numerous customers, falls right in line with our mission".

Version 3.1 is server-side software that provides the registered user of the web site with instantaneous, customised, binding quotes for rapid prototypes, cast urethane parts and other build-to-order manufacturing projects directly from the users' uploaded 3D CAD models.
