Quayhead Industries are the distributors for a small, non-contact sensor developed by Exergen, a specialist in infra-red technology, that is said to provide significant advantages over traditional or conventional IR methods of measuring temperature.

The IRt/c is claimed to be accurate, consistent and reliable, does not require power and connects directly to temperature measurement and control instrumentation.

Typical uses can be found within cooling, drying, heating, ovens, furnaces, gluing, hot melt adhesive, packaging, laminating and mixing applications.

The company claims that temperature measurement of any product during mixing may be difficult with conventional sheathed thermocouples or probes.

There is the potential for breakage and contamination and possible inaccuracy due to thermal lag that can be worsened by the insulating effect of certain products.

The IRt/c avoids these problems by monitoring continuously the temperature of the core product without contact, thereby increasing the efficiency of mixing, product quality and uniformity.
