Outstanding businesses from the engineering sector are amongst 133 companies celebrating today (21st April 2001) after being awarded the UK's top business accolade - a Queen's Award for Enterprise.

Outstanding businesses from the engineering sector are amongst 133 companies celebrating today (21st April 2001) after being awarded the UK's top business accolade - a Queen's Award for Enterprise Winning companies from the world of engineering include Miko Oilfield Supplies Ltd, Mechatherm International Ltd, Process Systems Enterprise Ltd, Rotork Controls Ltd, Sortex Ltd, Tritech International Ltd and Buro Happold Ltd

In total, Her Majesty the Queen announced 76 International Trade Awards, 42 for Innovation and 15 for the brand new category of Sustainable Development.

Last year 116 Awards were made.

As always, winners range from small businesses of just 2 and 3 people up to some of the biggest names in the country, with over 20,000 staff.

32% of this year's winners employ less than 50 people.

Winning companies benefit from the prestige associated with The Queen's Awards.

They are also entitled to use the coveted Queen's Award Emblem throughout their marketing and promotional activities for a period of 5 years as a symbol of their outstanding business success.

Welcoming the Awards, Minister for Trade Richard Caborn, said: "Today's winners are some of the cr?me de la cr?me of Britain's businesses.

They are the winners in our own "Oscars for Enterprise".

With their enterprising spirit and dynamism they exemplify the best of UK innovation and creativity.".
