Bajaj opts for specialist automaotive CAE software
Bajaj Auto, India's largest manufacturer of motorcycles, scooters and three-wheeler vehicles, has placed a large order for Ricardo Wave, Valdyn and Camspring powertrain software products
Ricardo has announced a deal for an undisclosed sum to provide licenses for use of its advanced engineering software to Bajaj Auto, India's largest manufacturer of motorcycles, scooters and three-wheeler vehicles.
As a result of this deal Bajaj engineers will have access to Ricardo Wave, Valdyn and Camspring powertrain software products.
Ricardo's computer-aided engineering software is widely used by automotive engineers throughout the motor industry - including five leading Formula One teams - to achieve optimum engine performance, whether to win races or minimise fuel consumption and emissions in everyday vehicles.
Bajaj Auto has already applied Ricardo's Wave combustion design code to produce a model of a more fuel-efficient single cylinder gasoline engine.
The company, which produced over 1.2 million units last year, will further apply Wave, Valdyn and Camspring to help develop its next generation of two and three-wheeler vehicles.
The objective is to improve engine performance using more advanced inlet and exhaust systems, enabling better fuel economy, lower emissions and enhanced power and torque.
Commenting on the performance enhancing characteristics of Ricardo software, Mr Bhagat, divisional manager, Bajaj Auto said: "The sophisticated capabilities of these products coupled with excellent training and online support from Ricardo made it the obvious choice.
The software is easy to use and allows our engineers to create complex models quickly and accurately simulating a large number of parameters and variations." Wave's unique engine design code will enable Bajaj Auto to simulate virtually any intake, combustion and exhaust system design.
Camspring, a kinematics design package for the analysis of all common valvetrain systems, will allow its engineers to rapidly assess an existing cam design.
Valdyn, a fully dynamic sister programme to Camspring, will enable the detailed modelling of the complete valvetrain from the crankshaft through the drive system to each individual valve.
Together, the software products will enable Bajaj Auto to design, analyse and optimise a complete driveline system.
Dr Richard Johns, president of Ricardo Software said: "We are delighted to support Bajaj Auto with our latest products.
From the cutting edge environment of Formula One to the high volume world of motorcycles and three wheeler vehicles, Ricardo is committed to providing the automotive industry with the engineering expertise to develop the next generation of engines.".
