For the past three years Hellman has worked as Managing Director and Regional Director of Product Engineering for GM-Fiat Powertrain in his native Sweden where he was responsible for the development and launch of new engines and transmissions for Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Opel and Saab.
Prior to that had a distinguished career with Volvo spanning some 15 years culminating as President and CEO of Volvo Penta and then President Volvo IT.
The breadth and depth of Hellman's expertise and experience is considerable and embraces powertrain strategy development; cost reduction and warranty programmes; development of alliances and joint ventures; and the refinement and implementation of product development processes for automotive powertrains.
Commenting on Hellman's appointment, Christopher Bates, Managing Director of Ricardo Consulting Engineers, said: "We are delighted to welcome Anders Hellman to the senior management team.
He has extensive experience in powertrain systems and will be instrumental in further expanding the heavy diesel business of Ricardo, which is a core part of our business".
