Pressure scales provide high-accuracy weighing

A Chronos Richardson product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 19, 2006

Chronos Richardson has recently introduced a range of pressure scales into their portfolio, providing high-accuracy weighing of carbon black, white fillers and silica.

Filler weighing, dosing and blending is at the heart of most rubber compounding plants and these are core competencies for Chronos Richardson.

The multi-weigher batching requirements of the compounding room are complex and varied, not only because of the diversity of material types, but also due to the range of inclusion sizes that have to be accommodated.

Enhancing their range of fillers weighing, dosing and blending equipment is an ongoing process for Chronos Richardson, who have recently introduced a range of pressure scales into their portfolio.

The new scales are already operating and providing high-accuracy weighing of carbon black, white fillers and silica.

The vacuum scales are ideal for low-headroom or single-storey mixing room applications.

Typically supplied in a 100kg capacity the pressure scales have a steel scale casing that is lined with a flexible rubber jacket, has a fluidised outlet cone for optimum filler discharge and come mounted on a loadcell weigh-frame.

Up to ten twin-speed infeed devices accurately feed filler sequentially into the scale and typically the weighing cycle is three minutes for weighing two materials into a combined batch size of 100kg.

As with all filler weighing applications the number and capacity of scales must be carefully selected to balance cost, accuracy and mixer cycle times.

Feeder types and feed rates are also carefully determined by taking into account batch cycle time, material inclusion size and accuracy requirements.

In addition to its well-proven range of pressure weighing and conventional weighing systems, the Chronos Clean-Feed system provides simultaneous vacuum conveying and weighing of batches of carbon black and white fillers.

This enables Chronos Richardson to continue to fulfil customer requirements for state of the-art mixing plants all over the world.

The Chronos Clean-Feed vacuum scale is positioned close to the mixer and its improved batch-weighing accuracy, data recording and reliability enables rubber compounders to enhance their product quality.
