Ultrasound product uses precision gears

A Reliance Precision product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 22, 2007

The Duoscan is the world's only 170 degree viewing probe to use ultrasound technology to predict the early stages of pregnancy in livestock.

For nearly thirty years Reliance has worked with BCF Technology in the design and development of its ultrasound instruments.

Following the success of Reliance Precision's components in its external ultrasound product, Oviscan, BCF Technology Limited once again turned to Reliance to provide fine pitch precision gears and precision geared assemblies for its new internal ultrasound product, Duoscan.

The Duoscan is the world's only 170 degree viewing probe to use ultrasound technology to predict the early stages of pregnancy in livestock.

Early detection and confirmation of foetal numbers allows farmers to control the mother's nutrition, resulting in a higher survival rate.

Gear-driven by an inbuilt motor, Duoscan requires a steady constant speed to produce clear ultrasound images and for ease of use the design criteria also demands miniaturisation.

BCF Technology knew that to achieve the exceptionally smooth motion required, only the highest quality gears could be used.

Reliance now supplies high precision gears to AGMA quality 14.
