Significant new developments to Renishaw's open, non-contact, encoder system include a 360° degree high resolution rotary encoder, linear encoders based on 40æm pitch scale, and a versatile XY planar encoder.

The RGH41 linear encoder system operates with Renishaw's new 40æm pitch flexible scale, and will shortly operate with industry standard 40æm chrome/glass etched scale, making it suitable for a wide range of motion applications.

When used with the Renishaw scale, the RGH41 offers simplified installation over existing systems, through increased set-up tolerances for ride height, pitch, roll and yaw.

The RGH41 is suitable for a wide range of motion applications, including lower specification machines built from extruded aluminium sections, such as pick and place robotics, print machinery and low-cost test machines.

For specialist machines and motion systems requiring an encoder with minimal mass and volume, the new compact RGH34 readhead measures only 15mm x 15mm x 8.8mm, with a separate PCB interface giving industry standard analogue and digital outputs.

Like the RGH41 encoder, the RGH34 will also read a range of 40æm pitch scale.

For rotary encoder applications, whether solid or hollow shaft, Renishaw's new RGR rotary ring encoder offers 360° capability on a low profile stainless steel ring.

Based on Renishaw's market proven RG2 linear encoder, the RGR system offers resolutions down to 0.2 arc seconds and speeds in excess of 2000 rpm.

A range of angular resolutions is available and reference marks can easily be mounted at any point on the ring.

Featuring a unique tapered mounting concept to simplify installation, the rings are available in sizes from 75mm to 200mm diameter.

The RGH42 XY planar encoder offers the proven benefits of Renishaw's RG2 system, reads commercially available 40æm pitch 'XY' planar plates, and is available in sizes up to 200mm x 200mm.

Comprising a single XY readhead, the system is available with industry standard 1Vpp analogue output and a range of digital outputs.

Applications for the RGH42 include planar stages with discrete XY actuation and planar motors with a floating platform, making it ideally suited to wirebonding stages and wafer handling systems.
