Renishaw strengthens link with Ilmor Engineering
A three-year technical partnership has been signed between Renishaw and Ilmor Engineering Ltd, supplier of championship winning race engines to Mercedes-Benz.
A three-year technical partnership has been signed between Renishaw plc, one of the world's leading metrology companies and Ilmor Engineering Ltd, supplier of championship winning race engines to Mercedes-Benz.
The aims of the partnership are to strengthen the technical abilities of both companies, driven by the exacting manufacturing processes demanded in the highly competitive world of international motor racing.
Renishaw already supplies many of its innovative products to Ilmor's manufacturing facility in Brixworth, Northamptonshire, helping to control machining processes and ensure sophisticated engine parts are produced within tight tolerances.
Under the terms of the agreement, Renishaw will become sole supplier of probing systems and machine tool performance testing products to Ilmor, and will upgrade all existing equipment to latest specifications.
The two companies will also work closely on new developments for maximising manufacturing efficiency, with Ilmor becoming a field-test site for new Renishaw innovations.
Said Paul Morgan, Ilmor's Managing Director, "Renishaw is known and respected throughout the world for the design and manufacture of metrology systems of the highest quality and reliability.
Its products have enabled Ilmor to carry out dimensional measurements to traceable standards, and ensure that our machine tools can operate unmanned with confidence.
We are therefore delighted to have signed an agreement with a world beater who, like Ilmor, understands the demands of remaining at the top in a technology-driven industry".
In response, David McMurtry, Renishaw's Chairman and Chief Executive, commented, "We are honoured to have been approached by Ilmor Engineering as a formal technical partner.
Renishaw has been a strong supplier to the automotive industry throughout its twenty-six year history, and the recognition by Ilmor of the contributory role that Renishaw can fulfil in ensuring their continued success is truly gratifying.
We are also pleased to be associated with the Ilmor designed and manufactured engine that powered Mika Hakkinen to a second successive Formula One championship, and look forward to providing Ilmor with the tools to continue manufacturing competitive race engines." The partnership agreement was signed at Ilmor Engineering on November 24th, by Paul Morgan and David McMurtry.
The signing was also attended by John Deer, co-founder of Renishaw, and Ben Taylor, Renishaw's Assistant Chief Executive.
