New probe system for larger machining centres

Renishaw has introduced a new range of probe systems designed for part set-up and gauging applications on 5-axis and large machining centres.
The new 'E' range probes use a high power optical transmission system to overcome signal communication problems, which can be caused by long distances and physical obstructions.
Based on technology proven over many years in Renishaw's standard optical signal transmission system, the high power 'E' system allows probe signals to be communicated up to 12 metres, using reflections from machine surfaces to maintain coverage.
The OMME optical receiver is a key component in the system, giving a 50% increase in transmission range over previous optical units, and a doubling in reception angle.
New auto-gain circuitry also automatically changes receiver sensitivity and reduces signal interference.
The new probe units are also based on existing Renishaw technology.
The MP10E high power probe is suitable for simple part set-up and in-cycle gauging applications, on a wide range of machine controllers.
For applications requiring greater probing performance, MP700E is a high accuracy probe based on Renishaw's MP700 strain gauge probe.
By completely isolating the measuring sensor from the kinematic re-seating mechanism, the design of the MP700E allows complex measurement, simplified calibration routines and the use of styli up to 200mm, whilst maintaining sub micron accuracy.
The new 'E' range probes can be used with high-speed, single touch probing routines, or double touch for controllers without high-speed skip option.
Like all Renishaw machine tool probes, they are also sealed to withstand harsh machine tool environments, and are highly resistant to false triggering induced by shock and vibration.
Both the MP10E and MP700E high power probe systems can be purchased with new machines, or easily retrofitted to machining centres already installed.
