Renishaw is supporting a new linear motion conference organised by Eureka.

Renishaw, together with three other leading suppliers in the field of motion control, is supporting a new linear motion conference organised by Eureka, a UK trade magazine for design engineers.

The Linear Motion Masterclass will be the first of a series of Eureka's Design Days, and takes place on 1st March 2007 at the Kaetsu Centre, Cambridge, UK.

From new types of digital printer through to highly accurate waterjet cutting machines, linear motors can deliver much greater accuracy than converted rotary motion.

However, take-up of linear motors has been limited to date, partly due to worries about higher cost, and also due to lack of general industry knowledge.

The Linear Motion Masterclass will focus on key issues including types of system that might benefit from direct drive linear motion, how linear motors and the associated slides, bearings and actuators are designed-in, and whether these systems can be truly cost-competitive against traditional designs.

During the event, there will be a range of technical presentations and hands-on training workshops, lead by a range of linear motion experts including consultants, end-users and suppliers.

Further explanation of the technology behind direct drive linear motion and the potential benefits that it offers designers, will also be provided through case study examples and tabletop displays.

The event is supported by four key suppliers in the field of linear motion; Aerotech (motors), Igus (bearings/slides), Renishaw (encoders) and THK (bearings/slides).
