Renishaw has just won its twelfth Queen's Award since 1979.

Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister's recommendation that a Queen's Award for Enterprise 2007 in the Innovations category, be conferred on Renishaw.

This is the twelfth Queen's Award the company has received since its first in 1979.

The award was given to Renishaw for the development of a radio transmission spindle probe system, the RMP60 and RMI probe system used on computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools.

The systems are able to measure work pieces, provide off-set fixtures, control in-cycle processes and finally inspect work being machined automatically.

The innovations include the incorporation of a specialised transmission control algorithm, the introduction of frequency hopping to reduce radio interference and the development of a technique for turning probes on and off using radio signals.

The new system has improved the reliability, speed and safety of CNC machines.

Sir David McMurtry, Chairman and Chief Executive said that Renishaw was delighted to receive another commendation for one of its products, and paid tribute to the Group's employees in the UK and overseas who have contributed to the success of its RMP60/RMI system worldwide.

Renishaw's business is metrology, the science of measurement, with products that ensure that exacting specifications are met with cost-effective methods, and perform measurement to international standards.

The headquarters of Renishaw is at New Mills, Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, with additional manufacturing facilities at Old Town, Wotton-under-Edge, Woodchester and Stonehouse, Gloucestershire and in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland.

To provide sales and technical support for customers in its major markets, Renishaw has established over 20 subsidiary companies overseas, together with additional representative offices, and a network of distributors in countries around the globe.

At the end of the last financial year, June 30th 2006, the Group had over 2,100 employees (some 1,600 in the UK and Ireland) with sales in excess of GBP 175 million and exports over 92% of its turnover.

The presentation of the award will be made by Her Majesty The Queen's Lord Lieutenant for Gloucestershire, Henry Elwes, later in the year.
