Renold has launched what it reckons is the world's first truly maintenance-free chain that will not require any relubrication during its entire working life.

Branded Renold Syno II, the new chain is a development of the previous Syno product and incorporates the latest techniques in controlled-flow lubrication and anticorrosion coating technology.

As opposed to low-maintenance chain, Syno II requires absolutely no relubrication, and is completely dry to the touch, making it easier and cleaner to handle.

It features what the company describes as an intelligent bush that releases just the right amount of lubricant to ensure the smooth, efficient running of the chain.

The result is a chain with no excess lubricant to contaminate any manufactured goods, even in light water-spray conditions and at speeds up to 3m/s.

Syno II is particularly suited to applications where maintenance is difficult or where product contamination by lubricant is not acceptable, such as in the food industry.

A particularly important feature of Syno II is the unique black coating applied to the chain's rollers.

This coating has been approved for use in the food industry and Syno II is currently the only chain on the market with rollers that have a food-approved coating.

Additionally, the lubricant used within the chain is USDA H1-approved.

The chain's plates and pins are coated with robust electroless nickel plating, which is highly resistant to flaking, chipping or peeling.

A major benefit of Syno II is that it is interchangeable, size for size, with standard chain, and uses standard attachments on its outer links.

It also runs on standard sprockets, even in duplex and triplex configurations, and simplex sizes are available to order from stock.

The new chain is capable of operating within a temperature range of -20 to +150C and is available in a wide range of standard sizes, including ANSI double pitch.
