When engineers decided to replace the chain driving six high-rise escalators on the Washington Metro, it was British manufacturer, Renold Chain, that got the order.

The company supplied 1200m of heavy-duty escalator step chain for the refurbishment of escalators at the Pentagon and Dupont Circle stations.

The chain being replaced had also been supplied by Renold and had been in trouble-free operation for over 11 years.

The largest of the escalators is at Dupont Circle, with 300 steps and a 20m vertical rise.
