Gott's Cement uses Syno chain on front-discharge cement mixers to drive the mechanism for adjusting the pouring shoot on mixer trucks.
Engineers at Gott's Cement in Minnesota, USA, have found a novel use for Renold Syno chain - they're using it on front-discharge cement mixers to drive the mechanism for adjusting the pouring shoot on mixer trucks.
Renold Syno is designed for clean environment applications where lubrication might potentially contaminate an end product, such as in the food industry, so use on a cement mixer truck is about as far away from a typical application as the manufacturers could possibly have anticipated.
The solution was suggested by one of Renold's US sales engineers as a way to reduce the unacceptably short chain life on the pouring-shoot drive mechanism.
The company had been using standard roller chain but the lubricant was attracting a build up of dirt, grit and other debris that was causing premature wear of the chain.
Switching to Renold Syno was an experiment that paid off.
As Renold Syno requires no lubrication it did not attract a build up of debris and so far has been operating maintenance free for over 18 months.
