Coupling dramatically improves encoder
application
Puzzled by the number of failures of flexible couplings in encoder applications, British Encoder Products sought a new supplier.
Puzzled by the number of failures of flexible couplings in encoder applications, British Encoder Products asked a new supplier, Reliance Gear Co to provide it with a Reli-a-Flex coupling to replace the standard spiral beam coupling it was offering as an accessory This proved to be a very wise move

Reliance Gear Co of Huddersfield has now enhanced its range of standard products by the introduction of a further range of precision mechanical couplings with bore sizes ranging from 3mm up to 12mm
British Encoder Products had been aware of flexible coupling failures, in encoder based applications, but until the advent of the Reli-a-Flex coupling there had been no acceptable alternative available.
The company was delighted to take delivery of a one-piece coupling whose unique, patented design not only provides extremely accurate transfer of motion, but also has excellent flexibility characteristics and predictable performance.
The accurate transfer of motion is accomplished by using a unique patented double slit pattern that gives very high torsional stiffness and unsurpassed reliability.
In addition, and unlike some spiral beam couplings, the Reli-a-Flex coupling introduces negligible radial and axial bearing loads.
Sure enough, since switching to the Reli-a-Flex coupling nearly two years ago, British Encoder Products has had no returns or breakages of flexible couplings from encoder based applications, where use of the Reli-a-Flex coupling has provided a high level of enhanced reliability.
Another major issue for British Encoder Products has been that it no longer needs to use bore reducers in couplings to suit its customers' requirements.
Reliance Gear Co's flexible manufacturing process allows it to supply the Reli-a-Flex coupling exactly to British Encoder's demand with each coupling bored out to the required size.
