Lighting energy savings of up to 30% possible

REO has introduced its new Reolux lighting control system, which will save as much as 30% energy in situations where strip lighting is used for illumination.

REO has introduced its new Reolux lighting control system, which will save energy in situations where strip lighting is used for illumination.

The system will be especially effective in large premises, such as exhibition and function halls, factories and department stores, where energy savings could reach as high as 30%.

When strip lighting is switched on, the output voltage is regulated at 230 V to generate ignition.

However, once the tubes have been triggered, the Reolux systems can reduce the supply voltage to between 180 and 190 V, with little effect on the brightness of the lighting.

Less current is therefore taken from the mains, leading to the high-energy savings.

All Reolux units comprise a three-phase booster transformer, a three-phase regulating transformer and control electronics.

The booster transformer regulates the mains voltage at a predetermined level and this is controlled from the variable transformer connected to its primary windings.

The electronic regulator can be controlled manually, or by a programme, to determine the required output voltage, the dwell time for maximum voltage before the switch to reduced voltage, and the dead band (the transformer voltage is not regulated within these limits).

A potential free contact, from within the lighting installation, is used to indicate when a lighting group has been switched on.

All voltages are regulated separately and up to eight inputs are provided, for use with the control.

The units are supplied with a main contactor, secondary contactor and a by-pass switch.

Standard control panels are used and connections are brought out to terminals.

A PLC is available as an optional extra, which allows the system to be networked.
