"Power quality for variable speed drives" is the latest in the series of technical guides published and available free from REO UK.

The guide (20 pages) gives an overview of some of the design, installation and operational considerations relating to variable speed drives (VSD), without going into in-depth technical discussion.

It is intended to help users, installers and sales personnel to understand some of the potential problems associated with VSDs and solutions to them.

In particular, it examines the use of filters, reactors and resistors in conjunction with VSDs to match the requirements of specific applications within the classifications of Industrial, Class A and Light Industrial and Domestic, Class B.

The guide also provides an overview of electromagnetic compatibility regarding immunity and emissions with regard to relevant European directives/standards, plus an explanation of harmonics, and their causes.

There are diagrams and illustrations throughout the guide to support the text.
