High-tech sleeves end chain maintenance

A Rexnord UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 11, 2006

Maintenance-free roller chain is designed for production machines and plant that run continuously at full capacity to help reduce downtime and minimise subsequent losses/costs.

RexCarbon from Rexnord is a truly maintenance-free roller chain.

It is has been developed specifically to satisfy the very testing demands of production machines and plant that run continuously at full capacity to help reduce downtime and minimise subsequent losses/costs.

Key to RexCarbon's hygienic, rigidity and dynamic performance characteristics are sliding sleeves produced from an advanced engineering plastic.

As well as imparting enhanced performance, these plastic sleeves ensure the chain retains them - even in damp and abrasive environments.

In addition, unlike conventional plastics, this high-tech sleeve material suffers negligible creep, thereby enhancing the chain's positioning capabilities.

Being lubrication-free, RexCarbon is ideal for applications where contamination risks must be eliminated, such as in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

It can be used in temperatures ranging from -40 to +100C and has operating speeds up to 2m/s.

Independent tests have shown that the plastic sleeves have improved the absolute rigidity of Rexnord's new chain by 36.4%, the relative rigidity of the plastic sleeves by 100.7% and its wear resistance improved 18 times compared with conventional plastic sleeve chains.

It is resistant to moisture, grease, oils, alcohol and corrosive liquids, including many acids.

For extra corrosion resistance, an optional coating can be factory applied.

RexCarbon is available in British Standard (ISO606 type B) 0.5, 0.625, 0.75 and 1in in both simplex and duplex versions.
