Dampers provide a high-quality feel
A new range of dampers are designed to provide resistance to applications which are required to open and close at different speeds, giving finished products a high-quality feel.
A new range of dampers are designed to provide resistance to applications which are required to open and close at different speeds, giving finished products a high-quality feel The range comprises nine bidirectional dampers in three families, the RFRT-PN family, the RFRT-CLIP family and the RAD family

Machined springs overcome wound limitations
For those engineers familiar with the traditional wound spring format, Abssac is offering a new way of looking at reliability, performance and attachment by use of a machined spring.
Electrodeposited metal bellows come to the UK
Abssac now supports the full range of unique electrodeposited metal bellows and electroformed products available from the Servometer Corp as its newly appointed sole UK distributor.
The RFRT-PN rotary damper series comprises the RFRT-PN3, the RFRT-PN4, the RFTN-PN5 and the RFRT-PN6 rotary dampers, which are differentiated by torque variations of 25, 40, 80 and 120gcm, respectively.
The RFRT-CLIP series of snap-fit rotary dampers comprises the RFRT-20G-CLIP and the RFRT-40G-CLIP, which are available in torque values of 20 and 40gcm, respectively.
Three axis dampers, the RAD-20, the RAD-25 and RAD-30, which have torque variations of 20, 25 and 30gcm, respectively, comprise the RAD series.
Both the RFRT-PN series and the RFRT-CLIP snap fit series work on a cog/gear rotary principle and require a separate tension spring to open the application.
The RAD series of axis dampers work on a barrel/axial principle and have an in-built tension spring.
Dampers operate by using silicon gear oil as a resistive force to torque.
The higher the viscosity of the silicon oil the more resistance will be offered to the applied torque and therefore the slower the application will open and close.
Lower oil viscosity will give faster movement.
Dampers control the speed at which applications open and close, giving the end-user a perception of quality and extra value.
They are used extensively in a wide variety of markets and applications.
Markets include the automotive, audio/visual and computing sectors.
Some typical application examples include, car seats, door handles, drinks cup holders, CD/DVD drives, TV control panels, satellite set top boxes and HVAC control panels.
A more specific application example would be for the RAD-20 axis damper which, though suitable for a wide variety of tasks, is designed using the 20gcm torque prevalent for applications in the TV industry.
