Printer Gros Monti has solved the problem of paper off-cuts clogging the bindery and eliminated expensive housekeeping at peak periods, by installing an automatic radial blower from Rietschle

A commercial printer's answer to dealing with a stream of trimmed paper off-cuts could offer a solution to other industries where production and automatic packaging lines produce substantial volumes of waste paper and plastic trim Based in Ashford, Kent, Gros Monti is a successful commercial printer, which has solved the problem of paper off-cuts clogging the bindery department, and eliminated expensive housekeeping at peak periods, by installing an automatic radial blower from Rietschle (UK)

Production manager Michael Owen operates a double day shift, seven days a week throughout the year.

When both the Komori and Mann Roland 5-colour presses are operating, things can get pretty busy in the bindery.

The mainstay of the department is its Muller Martini line, which runs at an average speed of 6500 copies/hour - dependant on the size of the publication.

At these speeds however, the trimmer dumped a constant stream of paper off-cuts onto the floor: enough in fact to keep a man and his broom busy sweeping up every five minutes.

An end to this expensive housekeeping came with the installation of a Rietschle RER radial blower, fitted with a special impeller that enables it to handle off-cuts of paper stock.

The suction inlet of the blower is connected to a hopper positioned below the trim table, which collects the falling off-cuts.

These are 'hoovered' up as they are produced, and conveyed via some 5m of flexible ducting, to be discharged into a standard waste collection bin.
