Blind fasteners supplied by Rivetnut Technology Systems are used by Aero Tec Laboratories in the production of fuel bladder tanks used extensively in the motorsport industry.

Aero Tec (also known as ATL Racing Fuel Cells) is currently a chosen supplier to every Formula One and World Rally Car team.

Motor racing is obviously a very aggressive and competitive environment, and safety has a high priority.

The fuel cells supplied by Aero Tec are hand built to the highest quality and must comply with the FIA (Federation International de L'Automobile) safety requirements.

The Rivetnut fasteners are used on bolt rings as part of the filler cap entry in a fuel cell construction, and form an integral part of the safety element for these products.

The deep female threaded anchor provided by the Rivetnut can be securely fitted to thin sheet materials working from one side of the material only.

Installation is both quick and accurate using handheld power tools only.

The M5 and M6 thread steel version used by Aero Tec features a knurled body, which provides increased torque resistance at the point of fixing, together with a sealed-end thread to prevent fuel leakage.

Both of these features help maintain the high fuel-seal integrity required for these fuel cells.

Roger Morgan, team leader for ATL Engineering Works quotes: "Our change to the superior performance of Rivetnut inserts has meant that we no longer have production problems with insert failure".

"A controlled tolerance hole preparation, combined with the excellent torque out resistance properties of these lipped inserts, have helped us maintain the quality and reliability our prestigious customers expect".

Rivetnuts can be supplied in thread sizes from M3 to M16, with special thread forms also available, and can be manufactured in steel, stainless, aluminium and brass.

They can be supplied with low profile or flush fitting heads, including load bearing, high strength varieties.

Knurled or hexagonal bodied units can also be supplied for installation in softer materials or where higher torque-load fixings are required.

Threads can be straight through or closed-end, and a rubber bodied nut providing vibration and water resistance is also available.

As no welding is required, Rivetnut installation can be undertaken on painted or prefinished parts without damaging surfaces.

There is therefore no requirement for masking or cleaning out threads after surface treatment procedures.
