Powerful, energy-efficient burners launched
Riello has announced the addition of two new burners to its Modubloc range, developed for operation in plants where hot water and steam boilers are required, providing outputs of 8,000 and 10,000kW
Fifteen of the sites are new stores, while the remaining installations form part of a rolling refurbishment programme for existing bakery facilities.
In some cases this entails complete replacement of ovens and burners, and in others, burner conversions for existing ovens.
The bakery oven specified by Asda is Mondial Forni's Ciclomondial, manufactured in Verona, Italy.
Matched to this is a 116kW output single-stage Riello FS10 burner, designed specifically for bakery oven applications and supplied by Riello from its UK headquarters in Huntingdon.
Special features of the burner include siting of the air-pressure switch at a negative-pressure point in the fan scroll to avoid possible blockage by airborne flour, and an air damper that does not close fully when the burner is at rest, thus allowing natural air convection to protect the burner against back-radiated heat from the combustion chamber.
For optimum reliability, ultra-high-temperature ignition cables and flame-probe cables are also fitted.
The burner fires into a main combustion chamber, and the heat is conveyed to the baking decks via heat-exchanger ducts, so there is no direct contact between combustion gases and bakery produce.
The installation work at each location was carried out by City Facilities, a facilities management company that performs all new store and asset replacement work for Asda.
According to Steve Smith of City Facilities in Southport, the burners are giving problem-free performance despite a demanding workload - on average, the burners are fired 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Environmental management is a core business concept at Asda, which has 245 stores and 19 depots across the UK.
The company employs a dedicated environmental manager to advise on environmental drivers and opportunities, and the latest energy-saving technologies are being introduced into stores and distribution centres.
Asda plans to develop another 30 to 40 new stores over the next three years, and their bakery ovens will all be fitted with Riello burners.
