Dialog Dual is designed to protect critical computer, telecomms and security applications from mains failures and power fluctuations.

Dialog Dual is designed to protect critical computer, telecomms and security applications from mains failures and power fluctuations The new Dialog Dual 3.3 and 4kVA UPS offer a host of features to enhance their installation, electrical performance and communications capabilities in critical applications

Dialog Dual can be installed as either a slim tower format UPS sitting beside a file server or phone switch or as a 19in rack-mount system in a standard 600mm deep cabinet to save floor space.

Unlike traditional UPSs that rely on LED indicators, Dialog Dual features a backlit multifunction, easy to read display that can be turned 90 degrees when installed into a 19in rack-mount cabinet.

The LCD provides a host of information on the general running state of the UPS including input and output voltage and frequency, internal UPS temperature, load and battery percentage and battery runtime available.

From the front panel users can select voltage and frequency, activate timed operation and one of five operating modes.

Dialog Dual has been designed to satisfy the remote communications requirements of leading ICT managers.

The UPS and associated version of PowerShield UPS monitoring and control software is Microsoft certified.

Dialog Dual has both serial and USB communication ports that are automatically activated on connection - there are no traditional DIP switches to select.

The UPS also features an internal slot for an SNMP adapter or volt-free signal contacts interface and can be remotely managed by Riello using its TeleGuard service package.

Low service costs are achieved through the use of customer replaceable internal battery packs and a specially designed temperature compensating battery charger.

The charger has a registered low ripple current distortion (LRCD) system designed to reduce battery ageing while quickly recharging an exhausted system after a mains failure.

In addition, Dialog Dual has been designed to minimise its battery usage.

The UPS can provide a stable sinewave inverter output down to as low as 140V AC and can ride through mains breaks of up to 40ms in duration - with batteries.

A rear panel battery extension pack connector is standard to allow the 10min runtime to be extended to more than 8h.

Ease of service is provided through a built-in maintenance bypass that can be manually selected from the LCD keypad.

The bypass also automatically activates when the plastic front is removed for access to the internal battery.

An automatic overload/system alarm bypass is standard to protect the UPS should it be suddenly overload.

Even here Dialog Dual demonstrates a robust design as it can withstand up to 150% overload when no mains is present.

The five user selectable sinewave operating modes can be selected from the front panel to achieve up to 98% operating efficiency.

They include online, line interactive, smart-active, frequency conversion and standby for emergency lighting applications.

The online (VFI) mode guarantees maximum protection for critical applications, and line-interactive (VI) offers up to 98% efficiency.

In smart active mode, the UPS automatically selects between online and line-interactive operation, based on the unit's own assessment of the quality of the electrical supply and the demands of the connected loads.

In the Emergency (centralised storage system) mode, the UPS becomes active only when the electrical supply fails.

This operation is ideal for installations such as emergency applications - for example emergency lighting systems and alarms.

Finally, the UPS can also be used as a frequency convertor, where users selects the output frequency they require.

According to Riello Galatrek General Manager Robin Koffler, Dialog Dual is perfect for mid-sized computer and comms applications looking for the ultimate installation flexibility.

"With the ability to operate either as a slim tower UPS or as a 19in rack-mount system in a standard 600mm deep cabinet, Dialog Dual is the ideal UPS solution for installations where space is important, but performance cannot be compromised", he said.
