Rocol Lubricants is investing in future generations of engineers with the sponsorship of an award for excellence for the next five years at HETA, one of the north of England's top engineering apprentice training organisations.

The West Yorkshire firm, which manufactures market leading lubricant ranges including Foodlube and Frontline, is backing the Award for Excellence from HETA until 2011.

This award is presented annually to the first year engineering apprentice who has made the most outstanding progress during their training and this year's winner is Steve Lammin from Weir Turbomachinery based in Barton-on-Humber.

Lammin is one of 4500 apprentices who have benefited through training with HETA over the last 40 years.

HETA currently trains engineering apprentices from 76 companies via its centres in Hull and Grimsby, with the wide range of engineering sectors represented extending from ports and logistics and petrochemicals to boilermaking and food production.

Presenting the award, Rocol Technical Manager Paul King said: "HETA provide the highest quality training for apprentices from many engineering disciplines and we are very proud to be associated with them".

"This year's winner of the Rocol Award for Excellence, Steve Lammin, fully deserves this award and we wish him every success with his engineering career".

Rocol has worked closely with HETA for many years, providing apprentices with lubrication training, practical advice and product knowledge.

The company is dedicated to passing on its technical expertise and best practice to future generations of engineers during their apprenticeship training with HETA.

Tony Atlass, Operations Manager at HETA said: "We are delighted with the five year sponsorship deal with Rocol for the Award for Excellence".

"They have been a long standing supporter of our training and we very much look forward to continuing this relationship for the benefit of all our engineering apprentices".

HETA's staff covers a wide range of engineering sectors including instructors from safety, gas, electricity, general engineering, shipping and food industries.

The organisation is and approved centre for C and G 2391, Inspection and Electrical Testing, and is C and G approved to provide training in refrigerant handling.

In addition, HETA is expanding its BTEC training which is attaining the highest quality standards.
