Daventry demo for mobile laser welding tool

A Rofin-Baasel product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 28, 2006

Award-winning mobile laser welding system available for demonstration in Daventry for anyone interested in mobile or static mould tool repair by laser welding.

Rofin-Baasel has announced that the Starweld Tool Open is available for demonstration at its Daventry office to anyone interested in mobile or static mould tool repair by laser welding.

The tool has won the international design label "IF product design award 2006".

Almost 2000 products from 37 countries applied and the jury awarded the IF trademark to 688 products.

The Starweld Tool Open is a mobile laser welding system with industrial design by the Hartmann + Hartmann team in Augsburg, Germany.

It is a laser system for repairing tools and moulds, and can do repair work on large tools on-site.

The cantilever arm with the fibre-coupled laser can process surfaces accurately in any position with short set-up times; there is no need of time-consuming and costly transportation of large tools and moulds.

Repair work can be done on-site.

The industrial design had to fulfill two requirements.

First, the cantilever arm with its large range must be able to reach difficult areas in need of repair.

Secondly, when transported, it should be as small and compact as possible, and if required it should be ready for work immediately.

Easy maintenance was another requirement.

The mobile device can easily be moved to the appropriate site.

The flexible cantilever arm reaches any spot, almost like a human arm, and can be locked in any position wanted.

The optical fibre runs along the cantilever arm like a red thread from the source to the processing head.

After use, the cantilever arm is folded up and is protected in a transport position with all operating elements and cables stowed away.

For maintenance work, the integrated components can easily be accessed by removing panels from the enclosure.

Unlimited sized tools can be laser welded with precision build-up on tool steels, aluminium and copper alloys.

Output is 150W and high peak power ensures high speed and flexibility.
