Renold Hi-Tec Couplings has won a GBP 250,000 contract to supply four DCB Carden shaft couplings for two vessels being converted for service with the Greek Navy The contract, for four rubber-in-compression, nonmagnetic Hi-Tec 856.5 DCB couplings, is part of a larger project to replace the major propulsion systems on two former Royal Navy Hunt Class mine countermeasures ships, transferred to the Hellenic Navy

The Hunts Class ships, built by Vosper Thornycroft, are being converted to become HS Evropi and HS Kallisto as part of a transfer of technology contract for fast attack craft.

The Hi-Tec DCB coupling was chosen because of its ability to reduce the noise signature of the vessels.

The DCB is ideally suited for marine propulsion, power generation and reciprocating compressor applications where fail-safe operation, long life and the control of resonant torsional vibration are essential.

Other benefits derived from using Hi-Tec DCB couplings include a misalignment capability, zero backlash and severe shock load protection.

Renold Hi-Tec's Sales Manager, Andrew Broadbent, comments: "The specification of Hi-Tec DCB couplings on such demanding applications demonstrates, once again, the shipbuilding industry's absolute trust in the strength, resilience and reliability of Renold Hi-Tec couplings on critical drive systems".
