Alabama-based mill orders flexible
couplings
Renold Hi-Tec Couplings has received an order in excess of GBP 0.3 million to supply its PM flexible couplings for a major upgrade on a steel mill in Alabama, USA.
The expertise of Renold Hi-Tec Couplings in providing driveline solutions for heavy industry, has led to the company receiving an order in excess of GBP 0.3 million to supply its PM flexible couplings for a major upgrade on a steel mill in Alabama, USA The hot sheet strip mill will incorporate three PM couplings in its production line, primarily to reduce torque amplification factors

Couplings are crucial to temporary power
Halifax-based Renold Hi-Tec Couplings has helped provide temporary power for what is claimed to be the world's largest floating oil production, storage and off-loading unit.
A PM1330 spacer coupling, rotating at 725rev/min, will transmit 6800kW of power between an electric motor and gearbox on a reversing rougher stand.
A PM2000 "shaft-to-shaft" coupling, rotating at 200-300rev/min, will transmit 8000kW of power between an electric motor and gearbox on a second reversing rougher stand, and a PM1330 cardan shaft coupling, rotating at 200-400rev/min, will transmit 6000kW of power to a finishing stand.
A significant factor in awarding the contract to Renold Hi-Tec was the PM coupling's ability in reducing torque amplification factors.
The PM range is specially designed for heavy industrial applications up to 6000kNm, providing exceptional protection against severe shock loads and vibration.
Torque amplifications are eliminated through precompression of the coupling's rubber elements while continuous operation is still assured even in the unlikely event of rubber failure or other damage.
The PM coupling requires no lubrication or adjustment.
The standard range comprises shaft-to-shaft, flange-to-shaft, mill motor coupling, torque limiting coupling and brake drum coupling configurations.
Applications include metal manufacture, mining and mineral manufacture, pumps, fans, compressors, cranes and hoists, pulp and paper industry and general heavy duty industrial applications.
