Compression couplings prevent vibration damage

A Renold Hi-Tec Couplings product story

The PM range of couplings is designed for the most arduous applications and provides protection against severe shock loads and vibration.

Renold Hi-Tec's PM range of rubber-in-compression couplings protect plant and equipment from vibration and shock loading in arduous, heavy-duty applications.

Severe shock loading and excessive vibration will result in premature wear of component parts, damage to the machinery being driven and even catastrophic failure in the worst cases.

Rubber-in-compression couplings are made up of two round metal sections with what looks like the paddles of a paddle steamer projecting inwards from the outer section and outwards from the inner section.

Rubber blocks are placed in the spaces in between the paddles and, as the outer section is turned by the engine, the inner section is driven through the rubber blocks.

As this happens the rubber is compressed.

The couplings are also failsafe because even if the rubber blocks fail the strong metal paddles come together and continue to drive the machinery.

The PM range of couplings is designed for the most arduous applications and provides protection against severe shock loads and vibration.

Renold Hi-Tec's engineers are able to eliminate problems with vibration by measuring the levels of vibration in the application and then carefully selecting the correct PM coupling and the formulation of rubber used to form the rubber blocks.

The PM range of couplings is suited to applications such as mining and quarrying, metal manufacture, mineral processing, pumps and general heavy-duty industrial applications for torques up to 6000kNm.

An additional benefit to specifying rubber-in-compression couplings is that they are maintenance-free and do not require lubrication or adjustment of any kind, which means they provide the lowest lifetime cost on all applications.
