A range of iron-core DC motors fitted with ovoid-style gearboxes and offering a high degree of custom flexibility is available from UK manufacturer Rotalink.

Custom options include different brush materials, bearings, shaft styles, gears, voltages and speeds, as well as the addition of EMC reduction electronics and auxiliary components.

Motors can be offered with a choice of carbon or precious metal brushes, operating voltages up to 28 V DC and speeds of up to 25,000 rev/min, with appropriate gearing down to suit the application.

The ovoid-style gearboxes can deliver up to 2 Nm torque, and feature passivated pressed steel construction with injection-moulded acetyl gears using sintered or ball-race bearings.

Low-noise and reduced backlash gears, as well as threaded mounting bushes, are also available.

A wide range of bespoke shaft styles is available, including through shafts with external gears to assist manual rotation of the gearbox.

Rotalink's in-house CNC turning facilities can produce shafts up to 20 mm in diameter, which can be threaded, cross-drilled, internally tapped, splined, grooved, knurled or incorporate machined flats.

The units can be fitted with EMC reduction electronics, mounted on a printed-circuit board on the rear of the motor and offering a typical conductive EMC reduction of 20 dB.

A choice of wiring loom styles and connectors is also provided, along with the facility for fitting auxiliary components such as connectors, flying leads, pulleys, encoders and lead screws.
